Browser bookmarks
Search bookmarks from Safari, Chrome, Arc, Brave, Edge, Vivaldi, Chromium, Opera and Firefox in Cleat, without installing a browser extension.
Type bm and a name, or just start typing at the root: bookmarks appear alongside apps and files. Return opens the bookmark, ⌘⏎ copies the link.
Which browsers
Safari, Chrome (including Beta and Canary), Arc, Brave, Edge, Vivaldi, Chromium, Opera, Dia and Firefox. Chromium browsers keep bookmarks in a JSON file, Safari in a property list, and Firefox in SQLite. Cleat reads all three formats.
Chromium profiles are checked as well, so a second or third profile is included without configuration.
No extension
Every one of these is a file in your home folder. Cleat reads it directly, which means nothing to install in the browser, nothing to keep updated when the browser changes, and no process running inside the browser watching what you do.
Firefox holds its database open while running, so Cleat copies the file, reads the copy and deletes it.
What is searched
The bookmark’s title first, then its host if the title does not match. The folder it lives in shows as the subtitle, so two bookmarks with the same name are still distinguishable.
Bookmarks rank slightly below apps and files at the root, and frecency lifts the ones you open. The list is re-read at most once a minute.
In privacy mode
Privacy mode replaces the folder and host with only the browser name, so a shared screen does not show where you keep things.
