Tasks
A local to-do list inside Cleat. One line sets the task, its area, its flag and its due date, and everything stays in a file on your own Mac.
Type task and a space. Anything you type that is not an existing task becomes an offer to add it.
One line, four things
ship the release friday !work !!
That is a task called “ship the release”, due Friday, in the Work area, flagged. The syntax is small on purpose:
| You type | It means |
|---|---|
!word |
The area. Anything you like; Personal is the default. |
!! |
Flag it, which sorts it to the top. |
A weekday, today, tomorrow, next week |
The due date. |
The list
Open tasks sort by flag, then due date, then age. Return completes the selected one, ⌘⏎ toggles its flag. With an empty field there is a row to clear everything already completed.
Where they live
In Cleat’s own preferences, on this Mac. There is no account, no sync and no server, which is the same answer as everything else in the app. If you want them somewhere else, Reminders is a separate search away and belongs to Apple.
From a script
open "cleat://task?q=buy%20milk%20tomorrow"
open -g "cleat://tasks"
Notes, priority and the archive
Two more things fit on the one line. !high, !medium or !low (or !3, !2, !1) set a priority, and high ones sort first and get a red mark. Anything after // becomes a note: ship it friday !high // needs the notarised build. ⌘K on a task cycles the priority, archives it, or deletes it.
Archiving puts a task aside without calling it done. The list stays clean, an Archived row at the bottom says how many are waiting, and typing archived lists them with Unarchive on each.
Quick capture
note: and a sentence appends a dated line to ~/.config/cleat/inbox.md, for things that arrive faster than they can be filed. ⌘⏎ opens the inbox; Open Inbox is a command.
